zypy: Python on Zyntax

zypy is a Python 3 runtime. It compiles Python source to the typed AST of Zyntax. It finds the types of values from the full program. When it knows a type, it keeps the value in typed form. Each function starts in the interpreter. zypy compiles a frequently used function to machine code with Cranelift, and then with LLVM.

This page shows the benchmark results from CI. The kernels are the PyPy speed-center benchmarks, in their original files. The CI workflow runs each kernel on zypy, PyPy and CPython. A check program runs each kernel on a small input. zypy must print the same result as CPython. A kernel that does not agree is not on this page. The kernels are in crates/zyntax_python/benchmarks/speed.

Shorter bars are faster. Each kernel runs a number of iterations and measures each iteration with its own clock. The iteration time is the mean of these measurements. The speed center uses this number. The full process time is the time of all iterations, plus start-up, compilation and exit. The iteration count of each kernel is in its row. The ratio column compares zypy with PyPy. The bars in a row use the slowest interpreter in that row as the full length.
